Public sentiment is everything. With it, nothing can fail.                                                                                                                                                                                    Without it, nothing can succeed.                                                                                                                                                                         -Abraham Lincoln

"Iraq in Their Own Words:The Surge; The Women of Iraq; and The Future of Iraq: Counterinsurgency at Work", is a series of 3 multi-part documentaries for television, that will not only begin to shed light on the momentous events in Iraq but will tell the real story of the great work our men and women in the armed forces are doing everyday to protect this great country.

These documentaries will provide unparalleled insights from key U.S. and Iraqi officials, as well as our brave soldiers and everyday Iraqi citizens.  Viewers will get the inside story, as told by the participants themselves, whose voices have been absent for too long.

These stories are told by the generals who have changed and shaped the strategy and the privates who meet the enemy face to face. The stories show how economic development, governance and reconstruction are complementing traditional combat power. It is the words of the political leaders who work to build a new Iraqi nation and the women who continue to build a new Iraqi society. It follows the “Sons of Iraq” and the growing Iraqi Army as they attempt to establish security. It covers the events from the awakening in al-Anbar to the streets of Baghdad, from Basra to Mosul. It shows how the enemy has tried to force his will on the Iraqi people and the population of the western coalitions.

"Iraq in Their Own Words: Counterinsurgency at Work" are more than documentaries; they are comprehensive stories with an array of supporting materials including a print and audio book, and an interactive online component. Developed by Hughes Media Productions, "Iraq in Their Own Words: Counterinsurgency at Work" is produced by Tim Watkins of Leo McWatkins Films, the company behind the award-winning Cold War documentary, "In the Face of Evil: Reagan's War in Word and Deed."

This project has come out of one man's curiosity to find out what was really going on in Iraq. He was not a journalist, not a member of the military, just an average citizen, who took the initiative and his own money to begin his quest to the front lines and gathered over 100 hours of interviews with over 450 people including:U.S. military leaders and commanders; service men and women from all branches of the Armed Forces; Department of Defense leaders; Members of the Iraqi Government; Iraqi citizens; armed forces family members; and some of America’s best known counterinsurgency experts.

The interview process began July, 2006.The interviews were gathered in places such as: The Command General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, Ft. Irwin National Training Center, The Pentagon, Walter Reed Hospital, The Army War College; and seven weeks in the country of Iraq where the creator of this project got to see first hand the execution of Counterinsurgency.

This documentary campaign is intended to raise awareness, draw attention to the truth, pay tribute to those that have made the sacrifices for us, and provide the tools and materials for us all to share and awaken those sitting on the sidelines. This will build from the compelling stories of how personal responsibility, bravery, and persistence, aided by the hard work done by our military and their Iraqi allies, have realized the goal of spreading democracy in the world.
For our freedom, our national security, our children's future, and our economic future, it is critically important to successfully finish the mission in Iraq. The project cannot get done without support from the pro-troop movement.  If you would like to support this project, please press the support now button.

…In the end it is a war of ideas.

…I say to you: that we are in a battle, and that more than half of this battle is taking place in the battlefield of the media. And that we are in a media battle in a race for the hearts and minds of our Umma.                                                                                     – Ayman al-Zawahiri to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, 9 July, 2005
